Every court system has jurisdiction over certain cases, from enforcing traffic laws to hearing capital murder charges. Ther Three forms of jurisdictions of supreme court are original, appellate and advisory given in constitution of india.
Jurisdiction is the authority given to a legal body like a court to administer justice within a defined field of responsibility.
The Supreme Court in India has three types of jurisdictions – original, appellate and advisory as provided in Articles 131, 133 – 136 and 143 respectively of the Indian Constitution.
• Original Jurisdiction– the court that gets to hear the case first. For example, Municipal courts typically have original jurisdiction over traffic offences that occur within city limits.
• Appellate Jurisdiction– the power for a higher court to review a lower court’s decision. For example, the Texas Court of Appeals has appellate jurisdiction over the District Courts (See the hierarchy of Texas Court Structure in this Unit).
• Advisory Jurisdiction - Under this, the President can request the Supreme Court to offer its opinion on any issue of law or fact.
