The evidence from genetic studies suggests that once anatomically modern people departed Africa, their initial migration destination was Asia.

Around 40,000 years ago, modern humans invaded Europe, most likely traveling along one of two corridors: one leading from Turkey down the Danube corridor into eastern Europe, and the other following the Mediterranean coast.
