Deviation may be individual, in which a person deviates from the normal behaviour of his group or it may be group deviation, in which the entire group deviates from social norms. The individual deviates from the norms of his sub-culture.
A deviate in a group also means to do something that is different from the usual or common way of behaving in a group. For example, the recent pattern of weather deviates from the norm for this time of year.
