About 200 people had to be rescued from a floating ice chunk in Minnesota state which lies in the northern U.S.

Around 200 individuals have been saved after they were abandoned on a huge lump of ice that split away in a Minnesota lake. The individuals stranded on Upper Red Lake in northern Minnesota were fishing, according to the local sheriff's office.

A call about a large chunk of ice completely breaking off from the beach and floating out into the 120,000-square-acre lake was received by first responders around 11:30 a.m. CT. By the time emergency responders arrived, the open water between the ice chunk that had broken and the beach had grown to about 60 feet.
