Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) uses electromagnetic fields to automatically identify and track tags attached to objects. When triggered by an electromagnetic interrogation pulse from a nearby RFID reader, the tag transmits digital data, typically an identifier number, to the reader. This number can be used to track goods in stock.
Passive tags are powered by interrogating radio wave energy from an RFID reader. Active tags are battery-powered and can therefore be read at longer distances than RFID readers, up to hundreds of meters.
