Gloria Williams stole 23-year-old Kamiyah Mobley from a Florida hospital hours after her biological mother Shanara Mobley gave birth in 1998. In South Carolina, Williams adopted her as Alexis Manigo. Williams was caught and convicted of abduction in 2017.
Kamiyah wrote to the court requesting a sentence reduction because Williams is still her mother. Williams loved her, provided for her, and reared her well, she added. Kamiyah reconciled with her birth parents, Shanara and Craig Aiken, at 19 but remains close to Williams.
In a passionate letter dated September 30, 2021, 23-year-old Kamiyah, who calls Williams her mother, begged the court to decrease the term. Williams called the sentence "cruel and unusual punishment."
