Answer:

  • Columbus was the first explorer Spanish sponsored.
  • They started the settlement on the island of Hispaniola.
  • They discovered the Mississippi River, San Salvador, and the Pacific Ocean.

Explanation:

Christopher Columbus was the first explorer to propose the Spanish kings an alternative route to reach India since the first one on that  time was harder to access since the fall of Constantinopla. That route consisted on sailing off from Spain to India  eastwards as he stated the Earth was round and then there should be a path to India sailing toward the east. He was the first spanish explorer to do such travel and as the first explorer sponsored by the Spanish Crown  to travel to what they will later known as America. Columbus Arrived to an island which is Modern-Haiti and settled their first base there. They called that island La Hispaniola.

Other Spanish explorers were famous for the discovery of  other iconic places. For example, Hernando de Soto found Missippi River; Pedro de Alvarado was the conqueror of the land that would be the first village of San Salvador, and Vasco Núñez de Balboa was the first Spanish explorer who saw the Pacific River.
