How does the tapered rim of a wheel on a railroad train allow one part of the rim to have a greater tangential speed than another part when it is rolling on a track?

pls explain how you get it! thanks!!!

Respuesta :

Remember tan v is just the linear velocity and anypoint on the rim. It is proptional to radius (rotaional speed) and the farther away from the center, the faster the speed.

tapering is  type of geometric transformation that narrows a shape. In this casem the wheel is not really round and thus certian parts of the edges move slower since they are closer to the middle.
