The most important source of wealth for central African Kingdoms was salt.
These kingdoms were located on the way of gold and salt trade routes. Its citizens collected salt at dessert oases and used it as an exchange medium, in the same way gold or silver were used in any other part of the world. They used to cut salt in pieces, and use to it sell or buy other commodities. Salt was the exchange unit of the African Kingdoms.
