How to we measure area?
Area is measured in terms of standard areas. Therefore, they are relative to each other.
We normally use a square of unit length as its size. That unit can be 1 cm, 1 meter, etc.
Now when we want to find surface area of some object, then the value we get tells us that you can fit this many unit sided squares on that object's surface.
Example, suppose we've a triangle with height 10 cm, and base 8 cm.
Its area would be

That shows that you can fit 40 squares whose sides are 1 cm in that triangle (you might need to slice some squares to make them fit, but all slices would get space to fit in).
