America had been fighting an 'island hopping' war, which meant that they would take only the big, strategic islands, and cut off the other islands from supplies, rendering them useless. This was effective, as they saved lives and equipment, instead of attacking every single one. The turning point of the war came in 'the battle of Midway', where the US navy heavily crippled the Japanese Navy, rendering them useless from then on.
The Japanese also lost at Leyte Gulf, and lost the rest of there fleet there in a gamble to try to destroy the US fleet

Pearl Harbor was attacked on December 7th, 1941, 2 days later the United States declared war on Japan, who essentially had no other choice apart from it. Since the attack, and up till the summer of 1942, the United States were forced into a defensive position by the Japanese naval forces. The Japanese were successful in their expansion, and fought aggressively but also strategically. However, this all turned around on June 1942, at the Battle of Midway, in the Pacific. The Battle of Midway was a happy turning point for the United States, as the Americans successfully destroyed many Japanese aircrafts and personnel. Not only did this battle cut down the air forces of the Japanese largely, it also opened the major military pathway to the mainland of Japan, also opening great strategic opportunities for the American forces.
I put a lot of effort into this please mark be brainliest!
