class A has 5 more people than class B. Class B last yr had 8 more people than it does this year. This yr, class B has 25 students. How many students are in class A this yr.

Look only at this year's numbers...

a=b+5,  b=25, use this value for b in the first equation to get:

a=25+5

a=30

There are 30 students in class a this year.
