Abraham Lincoln and Robert E. Lee differed on many things. Abraham Lincoln wanted to fight for the preservation of the Union, as well as for the emancipation of slaves. On the other hand, Robert E. Lee, while having no desire to destroy the Union, believed his loyalty lied with his state. However, a thing they had in common was the belief that the world will remember those who died fighting for freedom.
