The answer is (D) double-click the mouse.
If you would like to select a single word and the following words after it, you can choose to press and hold Shift and click the mouse. Choosing to press and hold Ctrl would instead let you select the whole sentence, both words preceding the clicked word and following it. Triple-clicking the mouse would select the whole paragraph.
