Aristotle lived in a time when most people believed the Earth was flat. However, Aristotle did not agreee. Aristotle concluded that the Earth was round because the shape of the Earth's shadow during a lunar eclipse was round. He also payed attention to the North Star and noticied that when you travelled north it moved to the middle of the sky, but when you travelled south, you couldn't see it at all. He also noticied that from a distance, you could only see the tops of ships. If the Earth was flat, he assumed you would be able to see the whole ship.
