It was said, according to Zhou Enlai, that the main effect of President Nixon's visit to China as  he strengthens the ties between the United States and China, was that "it bridged the vast ocean in the world, twenty-five years of no communication." The ties between China and US at that time are unfriendly since China was an ally of the Soviet Union at the course of the Cold War.
