Fossils are most commonly found in sedimentary rocks. Over time, sediments are carried by wind and water and are built up in one area. When organisms die, they can be covered in sediment. As more sediments are built up, the pressure from the ground above the original sediments causes them to bind into sedimentary rocks. The fossil is now trapped in these rocks until someone finds it.
