Americans at home were willing to deal with rationing during the times of WW2 to support the troops because most of that ration money would go to the US military.

This was more just to support the war effort in America. During World War 2, many Americans were very patriotic and due to some propaganda campaigns spread around the country, most people joined in helping out the military. By rationing, the extra supplies would go to the military.
