Ginn vs United states was supreme court decision which declared the exemption to literacy tests for the voting rights unconstitutional. The grandfather clauses were meant to protect the voting rights of illiterate white voters and for disenfranchising African American voters. In 1870, the fifteenth Amendment to US constitution was ratified which banned the denying of voting rights on grounds of race and color. In response to it the southern states responded by establishing constitutional provisions to disenfranchise African - American voters without violating the fifteenth amendment. The two parties in this case were US Solicitor General and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored people. It was a victory for the NAACP.
