Let's isolate x by moving the -1 to the left and the 3/2x to the right (direction chosen so that you don't get negative numbers):

[tex]4 + 1 = 2x - \frac{3}{2}x \implies 5 = \frac{1}{2}x[/tex]

Now multiply both sides by 2 and swap sides:

[tex]2 \cdot 5 = 2 \cdot \frac{1}{2}x \implies x = 10[/tex]
