Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt supported minorities in many ways. Mary McLeod Bethune was appointed the Director of Minority affairs in the National Youth Administration and a special adviser on minority affairs. The Daughters of an American Revolution prevented Marian Anderson from singing to an integrated audience at Constitutional Hall. Eleanor Roosevelt aided her in performing a critically acclaimed open-air concert on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. I believe that the Rooselvelts really helped with the advancement of colored people by doing this.
