Ashley walks 800 meters along a straight northerly path to school. Upon reaching the school building, she realizes she forgot her lunch and runs home (along the same path) to get it. In order to make it back to school on time, she roller-skates back to the school, again along the same path. What distance did Ashley travel? 800 meters 1,600 meters 2,400 meters 0 meters

First, Ashley walked 800 m to school, then she returned home traversing again 800 m, then she returned to school, again, traversing 800 m, all along the same path. When we sum those values we get: 800 m + 800 m + 800 m = 2400 m. So Ashley traveled a distance of 2400 m.
