A nurse should help the patient to the restroom if the patient is blind and has had orthopedic surgery. If the patient wants to urinate and is able to urinate a catheter should not be placed unless the patient is unable to walk. Since this patient can ambulate using a walker, she should be encourage to urinate in the toilet. If the patient is having pain upon walking and doesn't think they can get to the bathroom safely even with the nurses help. The patient can have a bedpan placed underneath them to urinate in.
