The Ghost reveals to Hamlet that he was poisoned to death by Claudius who spread the rumor that he died of snake bite which is believed to be true by everyone in Denmark so that's one. Hamlet's character is very complex and his erratic behavior confuses his friends when he wants to kill Claudius, but he wants to be sure Claudius will suffer.
