There are five steps that you should do before starting the engine after fueling:

1. Put the fill cap securely to stop vapors from escaping.
2. Wipe any spilled fuel and properly dispose of the rags you've used.
3. Open all windows, ports, doors, and any other openings in your boat.
4. If your boat has a power ventilation system or also known as exhaust blower, turn it on for about 4 minutes before starting your engine. This will help remove fuel vapors in the bilge.
5. Lastly, before starting the engine, sniff the bilge and engine compartment for any fuel vapors. Continue to ventilate until you cannot smell the fuel vapors anymore.

After doing these steps, you can now start the engine and reload your passengers.
