Four football players are running down the field at the same speed. Player 1 weighs 180lbs and is running toward the south goal, player 2 weighs 200lbs and is running toward the north goal, player 3 weighs 190lbs and is running toward the north goal, and player 4 weighs 165lbs and is running toward the south goal. Which player has the most momentum?
Please answer asap. Thanks in advance.

Respuesta :

player #2 has the most momentum. Think it as if you are rolling a baseball, bowling ball, and softball down a hill. it will take more effort to stop the bowling  ball, because it has more momentum.

Answer:

Player-2 has the most momentum.

Explanation:

Momentum is defined as quantity of an motion in an object. It is calculated by multiplying mass of an object with its velocity.

Momentum(P) = Mass(m) × Velocity(v)

Players are running down the field at the same speed but in different directions.

Mass of player 1 =[tex]m_1=180 lbs = 81.64 kg[/tex]

Velocity of the player 1 running towards south goal=[tex] v_1=v[/tex]

Momentum of player 1 = [tex]P_1=81.64 kg\times v[/tex]

Mass of player 2 =[tex]m_2=200 lbs = 90.71 kg[/tex]

Velocity of the player 2 running towards north goal=[tex] v_2=v[/tex]

Momentum of player 2 = [tex]P_2=90.71 kg\times v[/tex]

Mass of player 3 =[tex]m_2=190 lbs = 86.18 kg[/tex]

Velocity of the player 3 running towards north goal=[tex] v_3=v[/tex]

Momentum of player 3 = [tex]P_3=86.18 kg\times v[/tex]

Mass of player 4 =[tex]m_2=165 lbs = 74.84 kg[/tex]

Velocity of the player 4 running towards south goal=[tex] v_4=v[/tex]

Momentum of player 4 = [tex]P_4=74.84 kg\times v[/tex]

Since, the velocity of all the players are equal the momentum of the player will depend upon their respective mass. Higher the mass of the player more will be momentum of the player.

In given case. the mass of player is highest which means that player 2 will have the most of the momentum.
