During the time of Hitler's presidential election, Germany was going through a very deep economic depression. Hitler was elected because he convinced the German population that he could solve the country's economic issues. Because the German citizens were desperate, there was no reason why they would have elected somebody else. Due to this, Hitler gained lots of power, and there were not many actions that could have stopped him from this point forward.
