Benjamin Franklin's almanac contained many wise aphorisms that promoted frugality, self-improvement, and responsibility. This was in the year 1733 and was entitled "Poor Richard's Almanack". From this book, Richard Saunders was the known character, also his fictitious name. There were even short statements from this book which are still known today.
