Insects are by far the most populous member of the animal kingdom on the planet.
As of 2018, the total number of insect species identified by scientists is 925,000.
However, there is a general consensus in the academic world that these only represent a fraction of the actual number of species on planet Earth. Some have estimated the real number to be 2 million while others have given estimates of as high as 30 million species! The generally accepted number if close to 5 million which still means that over 80% of all insect species are yet to be discovered.

There are at least 900,000 species, but many more probably have yet to be discovered. Insects all have bodies consisting of a head, a thorax of three segments, usually three pairs of legs and often one or two pairs of wings. Their heads have compound eyes and long antennae that are sensitive to touch and smell.
