Wheatley changed being born in 1753 in Gambia. around the age of seven or 8, she became forcibly kidnapped and brought across the Atlantic at the Phillis and was soon bought as a slave to John and Susanna Wheatley of Boston.
It became owned by means of Timothy Fitch and captained by means of Peter Gwinn. On arrival in Boston, she became offered by means of the rich Boston merchant and tailor John Wheatley as a slave for his wife Susanna.
