What is a Fraction?
A fraction is a portion of a larger whole. The number is expressed in arithmetic as a quotient, which is the numerator divided by the denominator. Both are integers in a simple fraction. A complex fraction contains a fraction in either the numerator or the denominator. A proper fraction has a numerator that is less than the denominator.
Given :
No. of employees working in Metropolitan Transportation Company
= 800
fraction of college graduates = 1/4
fraction of high school graduates = 5/6 of the remaining.
No. of college graduates = 1/4 of 800 = 200
Remaining no. of employees who are not college graduates,
= 800 - 200 = 600
No. of high school graduates = 5/6 of 600
= [tex]5 *100[/tex]
= 500
Remaining employees who are neither college graduates nor high school graduates = 600 - 500 = 100
Hence, a fraction of employees who never graduated from high school = 100/ 800 = 1/8
Therefore, 1/8 of the employees never graduated from high school.
