Step 1: Plug in each value for x to find the y variable.
Example: f(x)= 2x+11
The intervals are (2,7)
f(x)= 2(2)+11
f(x)= 4+11
F(x)= 16
y can be substituted for f(x), so when x = 2, y= 16. -> (2, 16)
Do the same for the second number:
f(x)= 2(7) + 11
f(x)= 14+11
f(x)= 25
so when x = 7, y= 25 -> (7, 25)
Plug that into the rate of change (i.e. slope) formula: m= (y2- y1)/(x2- x1)
Our pairs are (2, 16) and (7, 25)
(x1, y1) (x2 ,y2)
(25-16)/ (7-2)
9/5, or 1 and 4/5, is the slope. Do the same thing for the other pairs, and then order the slope from least to greatest. :)
