The best response the nurse can make would be:

"While bipolar disorders are genetic, there are other causes as well."

This is because although a single definitive cause has not yet been determined, it has been agreed by researchers that a combination or interaction of genes, neurobiology, upbringing, life history, and maturity can result in bipolar disorders.
