Peripheral motor (aka efferent) nerves carry impulses away from the Central Nervous System (CNS: the brain and spinal cord), usually motor functions causing actions at effectors (muscle contraction or gland secretion). These can be spinal nerves, if exiting the spinal cord, or cranial nerves, if exiting the brain via the skull (cranium). Like any organized complex system, there are exceptions to these rules
