Stacy is walking his dog on a path and his dog wiggled out of his collar. If the dog is 30 feet lower than the owner and the angle of elevation from the dog to the owner is 10°, find the distance from the dog to the owner.

Respuesta :

draw a figure of the problem, check the picture attached.

Let C represent the position of the arm of Stacey, and E represent the position of the neck of the dog. Let B be the point such that CB=30 ft, and measure of angle CBE is 90 degrees.

The distance of Stacey from the dog is BE and can be found by the formula:

[tex]tan(CEB)= \frac{CB}{BE} [/tex]

[tex]tan10 ^{o} = \frac{30}{|BE|} [/tex]

[tex]|BE|= \frac{30}{tan10}= \frac{30}{0.176}=170.5 [/tex] feet
