Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) is an older set of communication standards for simultaneous digital transmission of voice, video, data, and other network services over the traditional circuits of the public switched telephone network. It was designed to support data rates of 64 kbps per channel.

However, ISDN is not considered one of the main technologies for high-speed data communication service over a local loop, especially by modern standards. Today, broadband technologies like DSL (Digital Subscriber Line), cable internet, fiber-optic communications, and wireless networks provide much higher speeds for data communication and are the prevalent technologies for high-speed internet access. ISDN has largely been supplanted by these faster and more efficient forms of internet connectivity.
