a. The motion is the same as that of the ball that is thrown straight upward in that the first part is the decreasing of the velocity until the motion is halted. Also the magnitude of the deceleration is the same for both. The same path is also true for the second part of the motion with still the same magnitude for the acceleration.

b. The difference in these motion is the direction of the motion. One is horizontal and the other one is vertical. Also, the masses of the objects used may be different.
