A large component of the military strategy which was of the Malayan Emergency and the Vietnam War was a mission named Search and Destroy, Seek and Destroy, or even simply S&D. There were basically two ideas behind conducting this mission. They were to search out the enemies and destroy them, afterward withdraw them immediately, and insert ground forces into hostile territory.

The name was given by General Westmoreland because it was a strategy that was framed to fight a war of attrition in Vietnam. As per the effect of the war, more bombing was done in South Vietnam and that makes refugees out among hundreds of people.
