These are my comments on the topic of government and religion in the state of Virginia during the 1700s.

During the 1700s different views from colonists lead to new laws and the desire to be independent of the British crown.
This was the colonial time in North America.
Good political ideas from colonists made possible a new form of government, not attached to the English rule.
One of the best examples is the creation of the Virginia House of Burgesses.
This was a kind of first intent of a legislative branch.
It was an important step towards representative democracy.
In this new system, religion has to be clearly separated from politics.
One of the important figures in colonial American times was Patrick Henry.
He was the first governor of Virginia.
He was known to be a fierce defender of the independence of the colonies from the British government.
He became even more famous with the speech he delivered and his quote "Give me Liberty or give me death."
Thomas Jefferson was another prominent colonist from Virginia, who ended up being the leader of the Antifederalists.
He was the drafter of the Declaration of Independence.
