Arterial PCO₂ do not increase during heavy exercise. PCO₂ or the partial pressure of carbon dioxide is the measure of the relative concentration of the gas in a fluid. PCO₂ do not change during exercise . PCO₂ will only increase for systemic venous blood pressure, not the arterial blood pressure. Alveolar ventilation increases with the same amount as carbon dioxide that is why alveolar and arterial PCO₂ do not change. Oxygen extraction from the blood by muscles increases because the blood will flow rapidly inside the system. The muscles will take in more oxygen from the blood because of the activity. And because of the intense activity, the body will produce more heat.
