I would say the characteristic of life would be survival so that the fly trap depends on protein from flies and spiders to live so has this mechanism to trap them and digest them so that it can nourish itself and also it exemplifies the relationship between the prey and the preyed upon and this process is also part of natural selection so that the more effective and faster fly traps would get more feed and also the warier insects would also be saved.
