Photosynthesis is defined as the process by which plants make food( glucose ) by using carbon dioxide, water and sunlight. In this, the roots absorb water and minerals, which is then transported to the leaves through a special set of vascular tissues in the stem called Xylem. The leaves then take in carbon dioxide through the stomata, which is present in the lower surface of the leaf. The stomata helps in gas exchange. Then, along with Chlorophyll ( the green pigment in plants ) , the water and carbon dioxide react with sunlight to produce glucose. Some of the glucose is used as food immediately while some of it is stored as cellulose for later use.
This process produces oxygen as a byproduct.
