According to some, Germany was responsible for World War II. The Treaty of Versailles, which was signed at the end of World War I, placed the blame for World War I on Germany and forced them to pay reparations. The treaty also required Germany to:
Reduce its armed forces
Accept the demilitarization of the Rhine region
Admit responsibility for the war
Agree to pay reparations
The treaty's harsh terms led to Germany's economy collapsing, the government losing power, and the military becoming weak. These factors led to Germans becoming loyal to Hitler and World War II.
Adolf Hitler, the leader of the German Nazis from 1934–1945, is also considered responsible for World War II. His fascist policies led to the deaths of approximately 50 million people, including 6 million Jews in concentration camps.
