I would like to train my dog to ring a bell when he needs to go outside. Initially, I reward him with a treat when he goes near the bell. Then I reward him when he brushes the bell and rings it. Eventually, after several steps I reward him by opening the door and giving him a treat when he rings the bell and goes outside. This process is called Generalization, Shaping, Discrimination, or Classical Conditioning
