Invasion of students’ privacy regarding their social media posts can occur if institutions or individuals use or monitor their online activities without their consent or knowledge. While social media posts are often public, meaning anyone can view them, there’s an expectation of privacy regarding personal information and communications. Monitoring or accessing students’ social media posts without their permission can infringe on their right to privacy and may lead to unintended consequences or judgments based on personal expression outside of academic settings.
