The Victorian Era was largely a time of stabilizing governments and expanding empires. Many new nationalistic entities came into being during this time, such as the German Empire and the Kingdom of Italy, as well as the Austro-Hungarian Empire. This was also a time where many states in the Balkans which were formerly a part of the Ottoman Empire, such as Bulgaria, Serbia, Montenegro, and Greece, would begin to have their own political and military events, both among each other and against their former rulers, the Ottomans.
The reason why western political boundaries changed between 1870-1900 is because of the rise of the Industrial Revolution. Most important, 19th-century Britain underwent political conflict as the urbanization and industrialization of the country generated a need for political and social change.

With the rising of capital and the credit need, banking grew not only in London but also in rural areas. Industrialists, traders, shipbuilders, and other private producers built provincial banks and published banknotes in the form of banknotes and notes, primarily to provide expense for labor and the acquisition of raw materials.
