The British tried to limit American incursion into Indian lands by banning colonists from settling there but the colonists simply ignored the ban.

After the British won the French and Indian War, they acquired a lot of French lands which had Native Americans. The British then issued the Proclamation of 1763 which:

  • Banned all American colonists from settling on the captured lands
  • Was an attempt to prevent conflict between the Colonists and the Native Indians
  • Was also an attempt to keep the colonists under control

The colonists detested the proclamation and decided to ignore it and in so doing, moved into Native land and settled there.

In conclusion, the British tried to stop the colonists from encroaching on Native land but failed to do so.
