Yuan needs to take a taxi to get to the movies. The taxi charges $3.50 for the first mile, and then $2.50 for each mile after that. If the total charge is $9.75, how far is Yuan's taxi ride to the movie?

Subtract 3.50 from 9.75 and you get 6.25. Now divide that by 2.5 and you get 2 and a half miles.
