In the earth, there are different cycles that circulate specific compounds as they are used by organisms and converted from one form to another. For example, the water cycle describes how water is moved from the soil and other sources to the atmosphere and then back to the sources again. All of these cycles exist due to the principle of conservation of mass, which states that all of the mass in a system remains constant.
