You simplify every fraction the same way.  You divide the numerator
and denominator by a common factor.  When they have no common
factor except ' 1 ', then the fraction has reached its simplest form.

The factors of  62  are  1,  2,  31, and  62 .

The factors of  40  are  1,  2,  4,  5,  8,  10,  20, and  40 .

The COMMON factors are  1  and  2 .

Divide numerator and denominator by  2, and you have  31 /20 .

That's the simplest form of the fraction, but it's still an 'improper' fraction,
that is,a fraction that's greater than ' 1 ' because the numerator is greater
than the denominator.

You can take 20 of the 20ths and call them ' 1 '.  Then you have  1 and 11/20 .
You can't get any simpler or more proper than that.
